Airfix Quiz 4
The following 10 questions were supplied by Airfix enthusiast Mike Dean. 

• Airfix has released 3 kits of aircraft powered by only 3 propeller driven engines - what were they ? (1 point for each).
  • Ford Tri-Motor, Junkers JU52 and Savioa-Marchetti SM79 (Quiz-setters note: The Fairey Rotodyne has 3 'propellors', but it's really a
    helicopter, so I count the main propellor as a 'rotor'!)

• What are two the alternative names of the Country Inn? (1 point for each).

• The VW Beetle has appeared in which 2 different scales by Airfix? (1 point for each).
  • 1/32 (VW Beetle 1200) and 1/144 (in the SRN4 Hovercraft!!)

• Which Airfix World War II bomber had the nickname 'Bit o' Lace'? (1 point).

• What was the main difference between the box top art of the 1968 version of the Sea King SH-3D and the 1970 version? (1 point).
  • The basic drawing remained exactly the same but the side number changed from '63' to '66' (and the squadron from HS-9 (USS Essex) to HS-4 (USS Hornet))

• What is wrong with the picture of the Blohm & Voss Bv.141 in the 7th Edition of the Airfix Catalogue? (1 point).
  • The picture has either been reversed, or the artist has drawn it incorrectly! The asymmetric shape should have the cabin to starboard with the engine and fuselage to port, but the 7th Edition catalogue has it the wrong way round!

• Field Marshall Rommel's name appears in the 10th Edition catalogue on 3 different items. Name the models where it appears. (1 point for each).

• The following clues all have a letter followed by one or more numbers (e.g. F4, A10, B24 etc.). Using just the numbers in the calculation, what 'P' does this sum produce? 1 point for each correct 'element' and 1 for the final answer (total 5 points).
  • a) Multiply 'Hercules' by 'Harrier two seat trainer'.
  • b) Add HMS Amazon's side number to the 'Skyhawk'.
  • Subtract b) from a).
  • the answer is an Airfix aircraft kit
  • a) C130 x T10 = 1300, then b) F169 + A4 = 173, then a - b = P1127 !!!
